We hope your children have a wonderful time in Reception! Here is some information that we hope you will find useful.
- Children should bring a water bottle containing only fresh water
- Snack is provided to the children (weekly payment)
- Seesaw is used to share information, learning and messages between school and families
- Fresh fruit and milk is offered each day
Reading:
For the first couple of weeks children will be given a story sack and then picture books to share at home. Once children have an understanding of letter corrospondence and are able to segment and blend words then they will be given a phonics reading book and a reading for pleasure book of their choice. We will change the phonics books every Friday.
We will listen to the children read three times a week during Reading Practise Sessions but expect them to read a few pages every night at home to an adult before completing their Reading Journal task.
Please make sure your child being their reading folder back to school each Wednesday. Do not put water bottles inside your child's book bags.
Phonics:
Phonics is taught daily in Reception. More information can be found on the Phonics and Early Reading page. The children's reading books directly link to the phonics sounds the children know.
Forest School:
Forest School sessions will take place each Friday afternoon. On Friday's children are to come to school wearing their PE kits and must bring a pair of wellies and some spare socks.
